Severe Flooding in Niger
Update from Kris Yeomans: It has rained ALL day (so far) and the road is no longer passable without a 4-wheel drive. All neighbors have left their homes and school has now been delayed at least a week. Thank you all for praying. We appreciate it so much!
Road to Sahel Academy
Prayer request: It’s Monday (August 24, 2020) morning here, around 8:05 a.m. We just received word that the Niger River has breached the wall just down from Sahel Academy (this is a school sponsored by SIM International where the Yeomans children attend school) and the road that the school is on is flooding. Many people have lost their homes and gardens, and we just received word that the school compound is being evacuated, as well as the CBN compound, where several missionaries live, next door to the school. There are five missionary homes on the school compound, and teachers have been working last week and this morning, getting ready for school to start next week.
Please be praying for everyone who is packing up their houses today in preparation for a possible river flood, and pray that the river will recede quickly. The river reached a record high yesterday of 660 cm (21’8″). That’s more than 30 cm (1 foot) higher than in 2012, when Sahel Academy was destroyed by floodwaters. I should also mention that it is raining very hard here right now. Thanks for praying!
