We are so happy to be able to share with you all that it looks like the Philippines will be opening!! We are going to be reaching out to the embassy on Monday to begin the process of applying for our visas. This has been a long time coming, but we know it has been in God’s hands this whole time. We could not have made it through the last year without the love, prayers, and support of you all. Thank you for letting us know we have never been alone.
Now, what has been going on this last month?? Well, Schuyler and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on April 21st. I would like to take you all down memory lane for a moment and share where God has taken us over the past 20 years. Schuyler and I were both in the military when we met and got married. We both separated from the service in 2003, after each serving 10 years. We have purchased, and sold, three homes. We have been blessed with two wonderful, healthy children. God laid a burden on my heart to homeschool my kids even before I had them, I didn’t understand why until a couple of years ago. I finished nursing school after getting out of the Army. I worked in several areas including my favorite, ER. I also worked as the Clinical Nurse Manager at my hospital. A position I never really wanted to fill. (However, the knowledge I gained from that position will be invaluable to me in the field.) Schuyler has worked construction for the past 10 years on and off. (He has learned a lot of skills that will be very valuable to us in the field as well.) We have served in church together teaching Sunday school, helping in and directing VBS, and served as the pastoral family at a small country church. We have had the privilege to serve in Honduras and India on short term mission trips. We have now had the honor to be called to full time missions in the Philippines. If you had told either of us 20 years ago that this is where God was going to place us, we probably would have laughed at you. But looking back on the last 20 years, God has been molding us for His call all along. We often do not see it as it is happening, but if we are willing, obedient servants, God will use us all in mighty ways.
Over the next month or so, God willing and everything stays stable in the Philippines, we will be applying for our visas, obtaining plane tickets and securing hotel accommodations at a government approved quarantine hotel in the Philippines. Please continue to pray for us through this process. Language lessons are going well. We can now sing a few songs in Cebuano and ask several basic questions.
Schuyler is still filling in at churches that do not have pastors. We are also helping out at Camp Allen as they prepare for summer. We have also been visiting as many association meetings as we can to keep everyone updated on our status and to fellowship with the many friends we have made over the past couple of years.
God Bless you all,
Schuyler, Cathy, Jeremiah and Allie Brantley
