Prayercast

Challenges for Prayer

  • Pray for the cultural barriers of the caste system and Hinduism to be overcome by the Gospel.
  • Pray for the Good News of Jesus Christ to reach every village and town.
  • Pray for justice and hope in a nation plagued by oppression, poverty, and disease.
  • Pray that present pressures and the work of the Holy Spirit might bring new life to traditional forms of Christianity.
  • Our General Baptist ministries are strong and growing but have many challenges.  Please pray for strength, safety and God’s blessing as they continue to minister in the most unevangelized nation General Baptists serve.

  • India Association March 2020 Update

The India Association reports Dorcas Sewing Centers active in seven villages including Mangampadu, Balijapadu, VAnchangi, Konda Lingamparthi, Raparthi, Ramanayyapeta, and Pavara.  There are nearly 150 ladies receiving tailoring classes each day in these centers and be ministered to by a local congregation daily.

    India Association Pastor's Meeting
India Association Pastor’s Meeting March 2020

A new group of tribal pastors met on March 2 in the village of Goligonda.  Pastor Prakash visited two churches and interactive with 15 pastors in that particular areas.  The association is always on the search for new villages to reach with the Dorcas ministry and to assist people physically and spiritually. The main pastors meeting also took place in Pithapuram on March 12.  There were 16 pastors in attendance, they had a time of prayer together for the various churches.

The association was also involved in helping 30 poor women and widows with clothing during the month and were able to reach 15 families with the gospel in the first three weeks of the month as well as benevolent ministry to 25 people and pastors.

The India Association typically conducts a season of Lent prayers each year, but those prayer meetings only lasted until March 21, 2020, when the Indian government initiated restrictions due to COVID-19.  Large group gatherings for India Association ceased on March 21 and the Dorcas Sewing Centers stopped meeting temporarily on March 25.

  • India Medical Camp

Pastor Jessey reports a successful Medical Camp in the rural areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states in India. The medical camps were conducted in the villages of Thummileru and Ramanakkapet. The two camps were able to touch the lives of 456 people.

    Local newspaper coverage

Pastor Jessey reports that the camps attracted media attention in both locations with local newspapers publishing articles in both locations. “Media was interested to know what we were doing and why we were doing it.”

The community of Thummileru was only accessible by boat.  The entire team, with supplies, had to take an hours boat ride in order to conduct the camp.

Pastor Jessey further explained that they had originally scheduled the camp for three days and three villages but ran out of medication after the second day.

    Arriving by boat

Every day, 23,000 people die in India; 6,000 of those die due to lack of proper medical attention and the lack of medical facilities. According to the latest statistics, there is only one doctor for every 1,700 Indians. India is a nation of 1.3 billion people, and 70% of the population live in rural areas with inadequate or no medical programs. Sadly, this results in people dying from diseases which could easily have been treated with basic medication.

Responding to this pressing need, medical camps are conducted particularly in remote villages without access to medical facilities (like doctors and pharmacies nearby) or where people live below the poverty line and therefore can never afford to visit a doctor or a medical facility.

A typical medical camp cost $500 a day and may last for 2-3 days.  Calvary Grace has a goal to conduct several of these each year as funds are available.

  • Living Waters Project India

    Living Waters Project India

Living Water Logo_fullIn many areas there’s a scarcity of drinking water in villages around India. So the Calvary Grace General Baptists Association  started the ‘Living water project’ which costs up to $1500 for digging the 500 feet well and electric water pump. Instead of an electric water pump we can fix a hand pump which would be $300-500 cheaper.  You can donate

Calvary Grace General Baptist Ministries has for over 30 years focused on evangelism and outreach ministries.  Calvary Grace has a combined membership of 850 and through these ministries God has increased their number.

It is important for the Calvary Grace Association to have ministry center to centralize their various ministries and provide a home for the Good Shepherd’s Children’s Home.

Currently construction is under way on this ministry center but we would like to assist Calvary Grace in reaching their goal by raising $20,000 to help them complete phase one of this project. Ultimately Rev. Jessey Vemula would like to see this facility serve as ministry center, children’s home and team house for Mission One teams.

    Lydia Sewing Centers

sewing machineThe Calvary Grace General Baptist ministry was started in 1984, by Rev. Charles Vemula. He ran the ministry for 31 years and in that time God enabled him to do many things which include planting 42 churches, raising 27 pastors, and witnessing to many unreached people.

The Lydia Sewing Centers, a ministry of Calvary Grace, exist to teach poor and disadvantaged ladies of India to sew and to reach them for the gospel. Most of these ladies and Hindus and, because of cultural mandates, can only be reached by women, especially our General Baptist Bible women.

On completion of their course, students from the Lydia Sewing Centers are given a sewing machine on a matching funds basis. The ladies are required to raise their portion and the Centers pay the remaining $100.
